as you can see… the purple top is (finally!) finished! I got some ribbon this afternoon from Abakhan Fabrics and worked most of the evening, having an hour break for dinner, and got it finished finally around 1am.. and it looks pretty good! I had to unpick the sleeves and redo them higher up – i refused to unpick the hem, so its falling lower than it should do. I think, for some stupid reason, the pattern makers wanted you to cup the sleevecuffs around the sleeve, so that each cuff wasn’t just attached to an inch or so of main sleeve fabric, it had the full width of the cuff of sleeve fabric tucked inside it, if that makes sense. Silly, really. Anyway, i’m not going to complain any more, its done, and thats the important part ๐Ÿ™‚

posing for the camera.. Michiel got me to do this pose. I felt silly. (not half as silly as the first photo he took.. i couldve given a soldier a run for his money, ramrod straight! and no, im not posting that one!)

a couple more photos of it are behind the cut. I also went fabric shopping in Abakhan, and while i was in town, popped into Primark. I was able to get some ballerina type shoes, and 2 pairs of fabric mary janes, one in black, one in red. I’ve plans for them, but exactly what will have to wait… i don’t want to spoil the surprise!!! I got very lucky with fabrics.. i got a lovely one for the dress, (pattern here)which will go nicely with my new ballerina shoes, and a couple of nice floaty material to make tops that are the same as the dress, but much shorter, and intended to be worn over a white vest.. photos behind the cut as usual ๐Ÿ™‚

plan of action for tomorrow: well, i’m itching to get started on my dress, but we do need to get the kitchen cleaned, and Michiel wants to make a proper job of it (i.e. pull everything we can out and clean from top to bottom). I also have to go to Ashton at some point to visit the sewing machine shop there, as Abakhan didn’t have a suitable lightbulb for the machine, and go back to Primark at some point to replace the red mary janes – i think they’re sized wrongly, as they’re way smaller than the black ones, which fit me perfectly.. stupidly i didn’t try the red ones on, only the black ones, and assumed they’d be identical. grr. So i’m not sure how much i’m gonna get done on my dress: i do know, though, that i want to have it finished as much as possible for friday so mum can help hem it.. and then there’s just all those tops to try to do next week! (not sure i’ll get them all done before we go away but if i can get just one or two done, i’ll be happy). we’ll have to see…

rear view - the orignal top called for an elasticated gather beneath the bust. I didnt like the sound of that, so put the ribbons in at the side, looped round the front and tied at the back, which i think looks lovely.

on the hanger. the original top is very low cut - obviously meant to be worn with a vest or something - so i made a little infill to preserve my modesty. (It was so low you could see my bra!)

i love the colours and patterns in this. This will be worn over a white vest.. hopefully a very pretty floaty top.

you can see how sheer it is, which is why its intended for wearing over a vest, although if i was feeling daring i suppose i could wear it over a bra

this is another one i fell in love with as soon as i saw it.. such gorgeous colours. Like the previous one, this is intended to be worn over a vest..

this i found rummaging through the remants bin. So pretty, theres enough to make a pretty scarf, or perhaps something to tie in my hair - its a soft, floaty georgette i think.
