Spent this afternoon in the garden. Jess came out with me (so more jess love, behind the cut). We had a great time – her just sitting with me, watching me weed bed 2 (before Mum helpfully informed me that it was probably chickweed, in which case, i could just rake/hoe it and let it rest on the surface of the soil to die. Oh well. i only did 1/3 by hand, the rest i did Mum’s way). Woman and Dog in perfect harmony. She’s conked out now, on the sofa. Happy Puppeh! I also sowed a gravel tray full of soil with lettuce seeds, to grow some lettuce indoors. Bit of a trial run, might give us some fresh greens in a few weeks.

one hoed and weeded bed 2. Much better. Next for this bed: digging in some organic fertiliser to help oomph the fertility. Then give it a rest, and sow the peas and beans!

Just as i finished up in the garden, taking a photo of bed 2, the little kids came home from school and started to kick a ball around in the street. Jess is watching them avidly, absolutely longing to go and play. (and no, we dont let her. Far too many cats/motorbikes/dogs/squirrels/birds around for her to chase to ever contemplate letting her run loose in the street).
